Sticky: Do something difficult

In the last 15 years we have seen some amazing advances in photography – almost entirely in the digital and mobile spaces. Making images has become faster, easier and comes at a much higher quality than George Eastman ever dreamed of.

But when you speed up art like that a very unfortunate side effect happens – the artistic quality drops substantially. When little thought goes into an image, little substance comes out.

This is not a rant about digital cameras. It’s a plea for photographers to stop relying on convenience because it sticks itself into all other aspects of our lives.

Just slow down, think about what you want to produce and don’t skip steps because they take longer. Go to great trouble to make art when you need to. It’s worth it.
